STEM Fun! Our entire school enjoyed the day-long residency conducted by staff from the Works Museum from Bloomington, MN. Their activities made hands-on engineering fun! Mr. Schmit also enhanced our STEM activities by incorporating robotics during our students’ technology classes. The students were amazed that they could code the robots to carry out tasks.
Professional Development: Our staff participated in the LETRS (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) training as a part of the Minnesota READ Act requirements. This top-notch training gives our teachers more tools for reading and spelling instruction.
Intergenerational Relationships: Every other week, volunteers from RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) visited SKD to play cribbage with the 4th graders. The students loved it and look forward to their visits. Some have even challenged their grandparents to a game!
Creative Connections Counseling: A new partnership with Creative Connections started in March 2023 and continued into this past school year. It’s made a big difference with our students and has been beneficial for our staff to have additional professional development in various mental health topics.
